Organized by Carmen Rios

A List of Resources
To help explain who I am (and hence, why the conference is important)--

http://oneyounglady.webs.com/- Portfolio and Resume site. I'm a proud activist and artist who tries to work toward feminist goals through advocacy efforts and campaigns.

My LinkedIn- http://linkedin.com/in/cmrios
My flickr- http://flickr.com/photos/rioscmarie

http://the-activista.tumblr.com/- I'm also the publisher, manager, and editor of a leading feminist blog on tumblr.com.

ttp://feminist.org/intern/2009spring/index.asp- I interned at The Feminist Majority Foundation in the Spring of 2009, where I worked on Ms. Magazine, the CHOICES Feminist Campus Program, the National Young Women's Leadership Conference, social media outreach and execution, and data collection.

http://whereisyourline.org/author/carmen/- I interned at the NYC office of THE LINE Campaign this past summer, working on campus outreach and program development for the campaign and setting up the National Campus Tour. I worked on compiling the advocacy materials, sending out interest letters, working with administrators and students, etc. I'm still an intern, via the internet, managing our social media and blogging for the campaign website about issues regarding sexuality, consent, respect, and feminism at large.

I created a student-led and -executed campaign on my campus this year, (con)sensual, to address and challenge issues around consent on my campus in relation to sexual interaction and build a less rape-prone campus culture. More on (con)sensual is available at the campus blog- http://consensual.tumblr.com
The Five (Simpler) Reasons Why You Should Donate!
  • As a leader on campus and in the young feminist community, you can be sure that your money is going toward a worthy and ambitious cause, and will empower an individual to achieve even more of her ambitious goals.
  • I can promise to provide feedback and information to any donors who contact me, be it the notes of a presentation or a short piece to go to a publication.
  • Opportunity is the predecessor to achievement. I have a proven record of taking on opportunities and responsibilities in order to achieve successes in my community and personal networks, and Sex::Tech will be no different.
  • I am every other poor college student, and I come from a humble background. Without the accomplishment of my fund-raising goal, I will not be able to afford my flight to San Francisco for Sex::Tech.
  • Sex::Tech is guaranteed to be an enriching and rewarding experience, which will provide me with a deeper knowledge of how to tackle issues of sexuality as a campus leader and advocate in my community.
My Feminist Credentials

I AM:

Carmen Rios. A dynamic, soulful, and outspoken young woman who works tirelessly to promote equality and feminist values on campus, in the workplace, in the courthouse, and in the bedroom.

I AM:

A student leader, an intern, and an independent. I'm heavily involved in Women's Initiative on my campus, where I currently sit as the Director of the Rape & Safety Department, working on programming to increase rape awareness, give back to the DC community with a focus on ending rape, and creating and executing (con)sensual, my first feminist brainchild, an educational advocacy campaign about verbal consent's importance in sexual interaction. I'm also Director of Comm for Queers and Allies, where I work on poster design and promotional work to ensure that the queer community is empowered and visible on campus. I'm a student intern specializing in marketing and event planning for the AU Women & Politics Institute and I've interned for the Web and Campus Departments at the Feminist Majority Foundation and THE LINE Campaign, which I am still involved with and working for via a long-distance internet romance. My credentials, with links and sample artwork, can be found at: http://oneyounglady.webs.com.
